Other educational facilities¹: | Over 200 schools in the Osnabrück district ensure an education and training tailored to individual abilities. The vocational schools play an important part in the training of qualified specialists. A special example is the Melle Vocational Academy (Berufsakademie). With this institution, the district of Osnabrück has one of the three specialist wood technology academies in Germany. As a result of the high concentration of furniture industry firms in the eastern part of the district and in the neighbouring federal state of North-Rhine Westphalia, it has been possible to build up a vocational academy at the highest level. The region also profits from the tertiary educational institutions in Osnabrück. Osnabrück University and its tuition priorities of business, jurisprudence, social sciences, pedagogics and cultural science, cultural and geosciences, mathematics/informatics, physics, and biology/chemistry educate a highly qualified next generation of specialists. The same applies to the University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule) Osnabrück with its priorities of agricultural science, electronics and informatics, landscape architecture, mechanical engineering, materials and processes, and business studies. The neighbouring university locations of Münster and Bielefeld complement the regional facilities in the technical and medical fields in particular. |
