Other educational facilities¹: | Over 200 schools in the Osnabrück district ensure an education and training tailored to individual abilities. The vocational schools play an important part in the training of qualified specialists. A special example is the Melle Vocational Academy (Berufsakademie). With this institution, the district of Osnabrück has one of the three specialist wood technology academies in Germany. As a result of the high concentration of furniture industry firms in the eastern part of the district and in the neighbouring federal state of North-Rhine Westphalia, it has been possible to build up a vocational academy at the highest level. The region also profits from the tertiary educational institutions in Osnabrück. Osnabrück University and its tuition priorities of business, jurisprudence, social sciences, pedagogics and cultural science, cultural and geosciences, mathematics/informatics, physics, and biology/chemistry educate a highly qualified next generation of specialists. The same applies to the University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule) Osnabrück with its priorities of agricultural science, electronics and informatics, landscape architecture, mechanical engineering, materials and processes, and business studies. The neighbouring university locations of Münster and Bielefeld complement the regional facilities in the technical and medical fields in particular. |
Other medical health facilities: | The healthcare industry is one of the most important economic sectors in the district of Osnabrück. In total, the healthcare industry provides around 14,000 jobs in the district. The 10 hospitals and a total of 647 resident doctors and dentists guarantee comprehensive medical care. The district of Osnabrück has particular expertise in specialist clinics for heart surgery, diabetes and ophthalmology. The overall picture of medical care is complemented by a further 2,200 beds in the preventive and rehabilitation sector. With its four state-approved spa communities Bad Essen, Bad Iburg, Bad Laer and Bad Rothenfelde, the district of Osnabrück is the second strongest spa location in Lower Saxony. |
Leisure facilities: | The district of Osnabrück lies in the nature park Nördlicher Teutoburger Wald - Wiehengebirg. With a total of 122,000 ha this is the largest nature reserve in northern Germany.
