Comment on the transport infrastructure: | The district of Leer has an excellent transport infrastructure. The A 28 and A 31 highways connect the location to the national highway network. The connection of the A 31 to the A 7 in the neighboring Netherlands provides a direct link to the international highway network (traffic route: Amsterdam - Groningen - Bremen - Hamburg). The A 31 provides a direct link between the district and the Rhine/Ruhr conurbation. This connection and the creation of the Jade-Weser Port have considerably enhanced the value of the region. With the seaport and inland port of the city of Leer, the business location "Landkreis Leer" has access to the Ruhr area and the Benelux countries via the Dortmund-Ems Canal. There are further connections via waterways to Bremen and Hanover - Magdeburg - Berlin. The North Sea can be reached directly via the Ems. The railroad station in the district town of Leer is a transport hub in an east-west and north-south direction and connects the local business location directly with the economic centers in the north and south of Germany and the Netherlands. The Leer-Papenburg airfield provides connections to national and international airports. It is mainly used by people from the local trade and industry. |
