The town of Leer is the economic, shopping and cultural center of the district of Leer.
The town of Leer (Ostfriesland) is a medium-sized center and district town in the center of the district of Leer. The city is bordered to the west by the river Ems and to the south by its tributary Leda. Alongside Emden and Aurich, it is currently the third largest city in East Frisia with around 35,000 inhabitants (LSN) and has steadily gained in population in recent years.
In addition to the city center, Leer is divided into eight other districts. These include Nüttermoor, Logabirum, Loga, Heisfelde, Hohegaste, Bingum, Nettelburg and Leerort. The majority of the population lives in the districts of Heisfelde and Loga, and in particular in the town center.
