With the "Ritterhude" peat barge, you can embark on a journey into the past of peatland colonization or simply enjoy the ride through rare flora and fauna. Cruise quietly and contemplatively along the Hamme and experience the atmosphere of the Hamme lowlands. Nature lovers get their money's worth here. Large areas in the municipal area are under nature protection. Together with the Biological Station Osterholz e.V., you can experience nature intensively, for example on guided tours through the Heerweger Moor and the Untere Wümme nature reserve or combined water and hiking tours. The varied landscapes can also be explored by bike or on foot. Cycling and hiking trails lead, for example, through the slightly hilly landscape of Bremen Switzerland with its river and stream valleys and through the partly rural villages of Stendorf, Werschenrege and Lesumstotel. |
| Cultural facilities: | The cultural and social side is colorful in Ritterhude: concerts, choir events and exhibitions are just as much a part of it as the numerous events of the more than 60 local clubs and associations. Highlights and visitor magnets are the harvest festival in Lesumstotel in August and the Hammefest around Riesstrasse at the beginning of September. Our European partners Val de Reuil (France), Sztum (Poland) and the Brandenburg town of Bad Belzig also regularly join in the celebrations. A fruitful cooperation and partnership has developed with them at various levels. |

The municipality of Ritterhude with its districts Ihlpohl, Lesumstotel, Ritterhude, Platjenwerbe, Stendorf and Werschenrege has a total of almost 15,000 inhabitants. The municipal area is about 3,282 hectares. 595 hectares are cultivated, 25% are designated as a landscape protection area, and 5% as a nature reserve.
