Description

The intermunicipal Eurohafen industrial estate is situated in the north of the town in the district of Hüntel. 23 companies have settled here up to now, eleven of which on the Meppen side. The Eurohafen industrial estate offers a wide variety of uses in its capacity as an industrial, commercial and mixed-purpose area. This is a particularly interesting location for large-sized companies as site requirements of up to 35 hectares can be met. The estate is adjacent to the B 70 trunk road and the major rail route from the Ruhr industrial basin to the North Sea. In addition, industrially reserved railway tracks are available. The link to the Dortmund-Ems Canal creates a third, promising transport opportunity. This is the context in which the Eurohafen Emsland, established in municipal collaboration with the town of Haren (Ems) at the end of 2007, which has already today far exceeded the transhipment plans. The link to the Niedersachsen seaports of Papenburg, Leer, Emden and the Netherland ports of Delfzijl, Groningen and Amsterdam, the connection to the European waterway network, the rail link and the double-track electrified rail line Emden-Münster-Cologne as well as the excellent accessibility to the Dörpen freight village are all guarantees for efficient transport routes.

Within the surroundings, port-related companies have the chance to settle. The Eurohafen Emsland is an important contribution to the future sustainability of the business location Meppen. The cooperation not only promotes an economic handling of resources, it also prevents the ruinous municipal rivalry in the competition to attract companies.

Around 3,500 people are currently employed in 23 different companies working in and from this estate.
