| Leisure/culture/sport¹ | Leisure facilities:
| The municipality of Ritterhude lies embedded in an atmospheric river landscape. You can go canoeing on the rivers Hamme and Wümme or enjoy a sociable boat trip in a "Torfkahn" (a traditional river barge for peat transport).
With the "Ritterhude" Torfkahn, for instance, you can take a boat trip into the past colonisation of the moors or simply enjoy the trip through a rare animal and plant world. Leisurely and contemplatively boating along the River Hamme, drinking in the atmosphere of the Hamme lowlands – a simply wonderful experience.
Nature-lovers are in their element here with us. Large areas within the precincts of the municipality are protected countryside. Together with the Osterholz Biological Station, a registered non-profit society, you can explore the intense experience nature has to offer, for instance during conducted tours through the Heerweger Moor and the Untere Wümme nature preserve or on combined water and hiking tours. You can find out more details about the offers available and make reservations for the guided tours at www.biologische-station-osterholz.de.
The varied countryside can also be explored by bicycle or on foot. Cycle routes and hiking trails lead, for example, into the gently rolling hills of the Bremer Schweiz region with its lovely river and creek valleys and through Stendorf, Werschenrege and Lesumstotel, which are in part traditional rural villages.
| | Cultural facilities:
| The cultural and social scene in Ritterhude is varied and colourful: concerts, choir events and exhibitions are as much a part of it as the numerous events and balls organised by the more than 60 clubs, societies and associations.
The highlights and particularly favourite events among the visitors are the Erntefest (Harvest Festival) in Lesumstotel in August and the Hammefest festival around the Riesstraße at the beginning of September. Our European partners from the twin towns Val de Reuil (France), Sztum (Poland), Bad Belzig in the German federal state of Brandenburg, and Scheemda (Netherlands) all celebrate regularly with us at these events. A fruitful collaboration and partnership has developed over the years with these towns at a number of different levels. | | Sport facilities:
| If you want to engage in sport in Ritterhude, you'll have plenty of possibilities to choose from because the range of offers here is particularly broad, not just organised within the various clubs but also independently of them.
Ritterhude has a lot to offer both young and old. The local clubs, associations, and the municipal administration will be happy to help you further. | | |
