Large-scale projects
Braunschweig Research Airport
Braunschweig Research Airport GmbH is an initiative supporting what is seen as an ideal place for future technological development – Braunschweig-Wolfsburg Airport. Neighbouring companies and organisations from the industrial and service sectors along with supervisory bodies, flight operators, research and development facilities, academic institutions and consulting firms have all joined together to form Research Airport GmbH. The members of the alliance aim to transfer their expertise in traffic safety and transport management, in particular in the field of air traffic, to other transport carriers. The development of the airport into a recognised test and experimental centre for the application of the European positioning and satellite navigation system Galileo should further increase the significance of the location for business and technology.
JadeWeserPort
In June 2002, the Niedersachsen state government and the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen launched one of the largest infrastructure projects to be seen in northern Germany over the last 50 years: the JadeWeser Port in Wilhelmshaven, Germany's only deep-water port for the future generation of ultra-large container ships. The first of these highly modern jumbo container ships are scheduled to call on the JadeWeserPort in October 2011 when the terminal enters service. Information on the project, the progress of construction and the location can be found on the Internet presentation.
